The Medicine Hat Cubs opened the HJHL season with a win.
The Cubs, opening the season on the road, beat the High River Flyers 8-3 on Friday.
Captain Kyle Woolridge had two goals and three assists in the win. Mason Osinski had a goal and three assists, Nolen Sutherland scored twice and added an assist. Carson Christianson had a goal and an assist and Hayden Davies scored a solo tally. Marlo DeRosa made 23 saves in the win.
The Cubs lost the second game of the weekend and season, falling 4-3 on the road Sunday to the Coaldale Copperheads.
Keynan Cairns had a goal and an assist and both Sutherland and Woolridge scored. Connor Bender made 25 saves.
The Cubs (1-1) hold their home opener on Friday, hosting the Cochrane Generals at the Kinplex for a 7:30 p.m. contest. They’ll also host the Airdrie Thunder on Sunday for a 3 p.m. game.
